5 Albums We're Hella Mega Excited For In 2020

It’s pretty simple, really — if Stand Atlantic comes out with a new record we’re going to listen to that record.

New year, new me, new music.

Just kidding. I’m going to listen to the same 10 records I’ve been listening to since 2005, with troublingly few exceptions. But one of these albums — perhaps all five — could be one of those exceptions, because I am 100 percent dead set on giving all of them a fair shot at becoming exactly that.

1) STAND ATLANTIC, TBA (TBA)

It’s pretty simple, really — if Stand Atlantic comes out with a new record we’re going to listen to that record. Is it really going to be named “2 Skinny 2 Dipping” as hinted at on Instagram? We can only hope.

Spaghetti.

2) HALSEY, Manic (Jan. 17)

I am not hip enough to have been aware of Halsey before her February 2019 SNL performance. But finishing a painting in the time it took to sing “Eastside” is the kind of creativity that demands your attention.

(It reminded me, somewhat, of “Nausea”-era Beck making use of a puppet band during a Studio 8H performance. You can’t really look away, very much anticipating what’s coming next.)

Since then I’ve been hooked, and “Manic” will certainly have my attention to start the year.

3) KILLERS, Imploding the Mirage (SPRING)

Have The Killers topped Hot Fuss? This is an honest question. It’s a question that has pecked and gnawed at Weezer’s cool factor since 1994. Where does a band go after unleashing something like “The Blue Album” or “Hot Fuss” onto the world’s populace? Now, I’m not here to shit talk “Sam’s Town” — I am just here for the next chapter of The Killer’s journey.

“The Man” was an OK song! “Toy Story 2” was also OK!

So far, The Killers have stayed pretty loyal to the hometown Vegas theme. It’s almost as if every album is an even more hardcore return-to-form effort. I am wildly curious to see if that trend will continue on an album containing the name of a famous Las Vegas hotel/casino in the title.

Is it possible to out-desert-scape Battleborn?

4) GREEN DAY, Father of All… (Feb. 7)

It’s only going to get less hip from here. This is the Reminiscent Podcast, after all. As we mentioned last week, we are more than a little intrigued by everything going on with the Hella Mega Tour, and that includes the new Green Day release. We’re here for it, even if the title track sounds a little bit like late-career Portugal The Man.

5) WEEZER, Van Weezer (May 15)

If you read this blog, this shouldn’t surprise you. Weezer rules. “Red” was good, “EWBAITE” was good, and “White” was good. Someday I’m going to force the show to let me discuss 2000-2009 Weezer releases for an entire episode without taking a breath or blinking. The ER trip will be worth it. Rivers has my attention until further notice. You can’t keep down the Weez.
